The $100M Smeralda, World’s Largest Aluminum Super Yacht

After two years and 550,000 man hours, the superyacht Smeralda finally launched this Spring and is currently cruising around the world showing off her beauty.  And of course she’s looking for an owner.  At 77 meters, the luxury craft is the world’s largest aluminum motor yacht and is also the most expensive product ever exported from Australia.  Built by German enviro-industrialist Guido Krass, the Smeralda is the third super yacht in the Silver Series and the most sophisticated of the three.  Noted for her lightweight aluminum hull and superstructure, she embodies the latest ground-breaking engineering for superyachts, combining long range cruising and levels of speed formerly not achieved in vessels this size.  Built to Guido Krass’s hand chosen specifications, he was guaranteed detailed attention, especially considering that he owns the Perth, Australia based company that built her.    And now she is for sale for a cool $100 million.  A steal, some might say.

The 252 foot yacht is designed to accommodate up to 22 guests and a crew of 16.  Taking advantage of her sleek styling, many of the spaces were designed with outdoor living in mind.  Expansive outdoor deck areas are plentiful, creating an environment designed for comfort while relaxing and playing at sea.  An amazing sun deck features large sun pads and a fully equipped bar with Bimini shades that can be opened to cover the entire area.  And an adjoining open cabana area can be enclosed with removable glass walls and used as a dining area surrounded with glass on three sides, providing unsurpassed views.  Below the sun deck is a fully equipped beach deck at water level.  The main deck features an unusual outdoor cinema, a nightclub quality outdoor sound system and a day spa with a separate massage room.  The multi-purpose aft outdoor area flanks a glass walled Jacuzzi that accommodates eight comfortably, and don’t forget onboard service is there to your glass filled.  And for guests who get bored, a touch and go heliport is unobtrusively positioned on the bow, while a variety of tenders and jet skis are available for playing in the water.  The extraordinary amount of outside living area is a huge departure from the norm for a yacht this size.

On board are 19 rooms, including 9 spacious guest cabins, all meticulously appointed and oriented with spaciousness in mind.  The over-the-top-with-opulence private owner’s apartment actually is over the top, as it encompasses the entire top deck with its own private aft outdoor lounge, also with removable glass doors.   Inside the Smeralda, a sophisticated contemporary Italian-style interior design dominates, featuring hand sculpted carpets, woven leathers, custom stonework and American walnut paneling finished with high gloss lacquer.  The extreme level of luxury exceeds that normally found on super-yachts, and is responsible for its unusually high value, well above the normal $1million per meter usually used to value vessels of this caliber.

In keeping with owner Guido Krass’s environmental consciousness, the core design calls for maximum fuel efficiency without compromising performance.  Smeralda is designed to travel 4500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 18 knots, with maximum speed of 30 knots, largely attributable to her hull design and lightweight aluminum superstructure.  The beautiful lady is currently in the Mediterranean, last seen in Cannes, Monaco and St. Tropez during the last week of July.  On August 6th she is scheduled to arrive in Port Cervo, Sardinia for awhile, located on the famous Costa Smeralda, her namesake.  Private Jets Charter can get you there to check her out in person.  This is the perfect time of the year for a Mediterranean holiday.
