Ferrari’s Fastest Car Ever – The New F12 Berlinetta

The Prancing Horse of Ferrari has done it again.  The newest pony in the stable, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta for 2013 has been released and it looks like they’ve got another winner.  Developed as a replacement for the Ferrari 599 GTO, the new F12 Berlinetta sports car was designed with help from Ferrari’s long time collaborator, the vaunted Pininfarina style house and the result is a car of pure elegance.  The undulating low slung front end terminates with a distinctive wide grid front grille that’s accentuated by long, enticing headlights.  Front fenders form a gentle cut down the sides and softly lift up again into the rear fenders.

The real calling card of course, is under the hood.  The F12 has a powerful 6.3 liter V12 engine with an extraordinary output of 730 horsepower, an increase of 120hp over the previous Ferrari 599.  And engineering advancements deliver this additional power with a 30% decrease in fuel consumption, an efficiency feature we’re seeing more and more frequently in high performance vehicles.  The F12 accelerates from 0-60mph (0-100km/h) at a rocket-fast 3.1 seconds and tops out at an impressive 211mph (340kph) on the open road, making it the fastest Ferrari ever.

The interior is as sumptuous as you’d expect, with wrap around seats upholstered in Frau leather with tooled trim and top stitching.  The dashboard offers a streamlined version of its predecessor with all infotainment features now displaying in the main gauge cluster, accessible from a bank of controls to the right of the wheel with the prominent prancing horse logo.  Carbon fiber trim is used liberally in the cockpit, and aluminum air vents are clearly reminiscent of an airliner.  This one’s definitely designed for a comfortable ride.

Ferrari set out to create their most powerful road car ever with the F12 Berlinetta and they’ve certainly accomplished their goal.  Ferrari hasn’t officially released firm pricing, but reports are that it will hover around $460,000US (€370,000 euro), depending on options.  Ferrari has an online configuring tool for those who want to play with finishes and colors.  We went to the site to custom design our own F12 and decided we like the Racing Red with Saddle Leather best.    What’s your favorite?
