Catch a Plane and Register to Vote at 35,000 Feet

Registering to vote in the US just got a little bit easier.  After having won the carrier rights for a new coast to coast route, Virgin America just inaugurated its nonstop flight service from San Francisco to Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington DC with another of the innovations it has become famous for.  In their “I’m A Flypartisan” campaign, crafted to acknowledge the current election year and the new Washington DC destination, passengers will now be able to register to vote while streaking across the skies at 600mph.

Virgin is partnering with PromoJam, the social media marketing gurus, and Rock the Vote, the largest nonpartisan voter registration group in the US to help get 1.5 million new voters registered in a maneuver that can be described as very creative and very Virgin.

The inaugural flight had Rock the Vote president Heather Smith on board to pitch the program, as well as Mitt and Barack impersonators handing out American flags and kissing babies to get the party started.  PromoJam founders Matt and Amanda MacNaughton also were also on board to encourage passenger participation.

Passengers on all Virgin America flights will now be able to register by using their smartphone to scan a QR code on the seatback entertainment system to get to a voter registration screen.  There’s also an opportunity to make an online donation to Rock the Vote’s ongoing registration efforts.  Doing one’s civic duty has never been easier.
