100VLL: 100LL renamed to placate environmentalists?

Last week  General Aviation News  and the EAA reported on the FAA SAIB dated Sept. 14, approving 100VLL avgas for all aircraft that are approved for 80, 91, 100 or 100LL avgas. The 100VLL specification was the result of an ASTM workgroup, WK30832 that updated ASTM D910 avgas specification to its latest version, D910-11, earlier this year. An additional item to note is that 100VLL is the same dye color as 100 LL, blue, so unless the pump is labeled 100VLL, you won't know whether you are getting 100LL or 100VLL.
