Stimulus money funds solar energy at FMY

About $500,000 in federal stimulus money will cut the payback time in half for a new solar energy-generating system at Page Field (FMY) in Fort Myers, Florida. According to a News-Press story, the general aviation airport's new, $16.2 million terminal complex opens for business Aug. 31. One-quarter of its electrical power will be generated by solar photovoltaic panels atop a nearby multi-use hangar. The Lee County Port Authority had already committed $1.6 million on the system when it got word it had scored the maximum $500,000 grant state officials would disburse for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
