CFIT kills 182 pilot

This August 2009 accident report is provided by the National Transportation Safety Board. Published as an educational tool, it is intended to help pilots learn from the misfortunes of others. Aircraft: Cessna 182. Injuries: 1 Fatal. Location: Napa, Calif. Aircraft damage: Destroyed. What reportedly happened: The pilot, who held a commercial license with an instrument rating, had logged more than 1,080 hours, including 162 hours of simulated instrument experience, and 28.5 of actual instrument experience. He received an Instrument Competency Check several days prior to the accident.
